A pelmet is a finishing component used to hide the head plate and any packing required to ensure your wardrobe doors function perfectly.
Why is a Pelmet included?
There are two primary reasons a pelmet is required for a professional built-in finish:
- Leveling a "Run-Out" Ceiling: If your ceiling is not level, you will install a 16mm MDF Head Plate, "packing it down" until it is perfectly level. Your top track is then screwed into this plate. The pelmet covers the raw 16mm edge and any gaps.
- High Ceilings (Fill to Top): If your ceiling is higher than 2730mm, the top tracks must be packed down to meet the maximum door height. The pelmet acts as the fascia to bridge the gap between the doors and the ceiling.
Installation Essentials:
- The Scribe: As shown in the video, you must scribe (trim) the top of the pelmet to follow the exact contour of your ceiling. This eliminates visible gaps caused by ceiling "run out."
- Fixing: The pelmet is fixed to the face of the head plate once the tracks are level.
- The Finish: A bead of caulk along the scribe line where the pelmet meets the ceiling will provide the final seamless, built-in look.
