How to Install: Top Shelf
The top shelf is the horizontal "cap" for your internal wardrobe layout. It ties the entire system together by sitting across the uprights and end cleats.
1. Measuring to Fit
Your top shelf is provided oversized. Once your internal units and end panels are in position, measure the actual gap between your two end points (wall-to-wall or wall-to-end panel).
- Check for Square: Check your corners with a level. You may need to scribe or angle the cut on the end of the shelf to ensure a flush fit against the wall.
2. The Support System
The top shelf is supported by a combination of uprights and cleats:
- Internal Units: The shelf sits directly on the uprights of your drawer or shelf units.
- End Cleats: At the ends of the wardrobe (where there is no unit), the shelf is supported by timber wall cleats.
- Safety Tip: If fixing a cleat to an end panel, use 25mm screws so they do not break through the outside face.
- Back Cleats: If your shelf span is over one meter, install the provided back cleats to the rear wall to prevent sagging.
3. Final Fixing
Lifting the shelf into position is the final step for the internal structure.
- Securing the Shelf: Screw down through the top of the shelf into every upright it crosses and into every support cleat. This locks all components into a single, rigid structure.
