⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: This guide and video are strictly for customers who have chosen a Basic Layout consisting only of a single vertical upright and a top shelf. If your wardrobe includes a Drawer Unit or Shelf Unit, please refer to those specific guides instead, as this methodology will not apply to your build.

1. Setting Your Point of Reference

In a basic layout, the vertical upright is the core of the internal system.

  • Measurement: Refer to your custom plan to find the exact center-point for your upright. Measure off your wall and mark a vertical reference line.
  • Width Check: If your design includes an end panel, cross-check the total wardrobe width against your plan before fixing any components.

2. Supporting the Vertical Upright

Because this layout lacks the structural "box" of a drawer unit, the single upright must be reinforced to stand plumb and secure.

  • Brackets: Use the metal L-brackets provided in your myDIY fixings pack to reinforce the upright.
  • Fixing: Screw the bracket into the wall (using appropriate anchors for your wall type) and then into the upright. Ensure the upright is perfectly level on all planes before final fixing.
  • Alternative Method: If your skirting boards have not been removed, you can use a multi-tool to cut a small groove into the skirting to "wedge" the upright in for additional lateral support.

3. Fitting the Top Shelf

The top shelf ties the upright to the walls or end panel.

  • Measuring for End Panels: If your robe terminates at an end panel, measure the total width and subtract the 16mm thickness of that panel to find your shelf length.
  • Squaring the Corner: Check the corner where the shelf meets the wall with a level. If the wall is out of square, scribe the end of the shelf to ensure a snug, gap-free fit.

4. Support Cleats

  • Wall-to-Wall: If your shelf sits between two walls, install timber cleats on both sides to support the ends of the shelf.
  • End Panel Fix: If fixing a cleat to an end panel, use 25mm screws to ensure they do not break through to the finished outside face of the panel.

5. Final Assembly

Once the top shelf is cut and the cleats are in place, lift the shelf into position. Screw down through the top of the shelf into the wall cleats and directly into the top of your vertical upright to lock the entire internal system together.
